Lida and I just returned from my retirement trip to New Zealand. Suffering from jet lag (not sure if I will ever get on a plane again) but no regrets about our trip. What an incredible and beautiful place. Everything from beaches to glaciers.
I wanted to find some native New Zealand wood and did a lot of research and googling to try to find some. I even emailed a turning group in New Zealand. I finally found a dealer who would export to the US but couldn't pull the trigger because of the cost. The wood was very pricy and the shipping cost almost equaled the cost of the wood. My solution was to buy a cutting board made from reclaimed Rimu wood that I carried back in my suitcase. I hope to incorporate it into a segmented bowl and to get a couple pens out of it.
