If anyone knows about breed dogs, you have to come up with a registered name. I am having a problem with this one, and looking for some additional creative ideas. Here are the rules.
1. The kennel name must come first, and the name can be no longer than 30 characters. That includes punctuation and spaces.
2. The kennel is Portree (Capital of the Isle of Skye in Scotland).
3. The litter name must include Dream.
4. The dog will be a male so "Portree's Fluffy Dreamer" would be less than enthusiastically accepted by SWMBO.

So lets hear it, what are your ideas?

The dog is a Gordon Setter, the Scottish setter.

The current leading name (Now you know why I asked Skye) is:

Portree's Isle of Skye Dreams Formal Name
Skye House name.
- or -
Portree's Dream Chaser Formal Name
Chase House Name

The hard part is getting a good common name in that mix.

You could throw a little Scottish Gaelic in there for good measure. ie. the Gaelic form of my given name is "nansaidh" which I've used for years as a screen name, etc. I can give a shot at translating some simple words if you're interested.

Slainte mhath! (good health)
Nansaidh [:)]

If you can figure out something that fits and sounds good as a dog name, I am open for suggestions.

I wanted to fit the slogen MacKintosh in but it is only an ok name. (Touch not the cat without a glove) I have 3 cats.

Ah, a Gordon Setter--both my Son & Nephew have one. Great dogs but can be a little hyper. My Son named his Bell & my Nephew named his Gypsy---but, I don't know if they registered their's or not. My Son's Mother-In-Law was visiting and Greg (my Son) was hollaring Bell come here several times loudly and authoritatively----my Son's wife's name is Isabel and her Mother calls her Bell---so she thought he was calling for Isabel---guess sometime's ya gotta be careful with names.

Another good one that has come in...
Portree's California Dreaming - Cal

Tip' - That is a great one, unfortunately it will be a male dog.

Nice catch Skye.

Well, here are a few ideas you could incorporate:

(Scottish Gaelic)

dìleas = faithful (pronounced DEEL-e-us)
caraid = friend (pronounced kar-ahd)
sealgair = hunter
mac an tiosich = MacKintosh
muileach = beloved
aisling = dream

and one I think would be totally cool to use:
dubh = black or dark... since Gordons are black and red. Dubh is pronounced "duv" and you could use a frequently coined Scottish nickname of Mac Dubh for his call name, or simply "Mac." (I'm likin it... personally. ;)

So how about Portree's Dreaming Mac Dubh or something like that? :)

Congrats on your new pup...

Hmmm...based on Nancy's translations, how about Portree's Dìleas Dream? "DEEL-e-us" is an unusual and neat name for a dog, IMHO, and the fact that it also translates into a neat name is kind of cool!

Cool, good one Jim! I just adore Gaelic... it's so musical when spoken or sung. There's a wonderful cadence and add in the gutterals and rolled R's... lovely. A beautiful language, sadly dying a slow but steady death. [:(]

If the Gordon is as "active" as my Irish were, he'll think his name is "no".

Currently on our 2nd Dobie...now that's active!

As Ang's intern, I'll be happy to consider the "real connection" between dog breed and owner personality- Dobie, interesting- What does that say about me?
