I drove 360 miles to visit with Mark James and the local IAP chapter. Talk about hospitality! Friday night we had brats and burgers. Tonight Mark made brats, onions, green peppers, and provolone. And I washed it down with his wife's homemade Bourbon! Man am I living right! I also talked Mark into teaching me his super secret segmenting! And he even made a pen! We are now enjoying the night air. And I am flying high. Here are some pics. I hope you enjoy

Mark.jpg

I would love to be able to be there and try Mark's cooking, as for the home made Bourbon, that explains a lot...!:)

Yes, "friends" are not that easy to find, good friends are something that most people take for grant, good friends is something very special, in my books...!

I'm glad you guys had some fun, the food looks delicious, thank you also for the pics, they are great.

Cheers

That is the one sad thing about the IAP.........we all live so far apart.

Glad you had such a great time Ernie. Mark, you are a gentleman of the highest quality!

I couldn't agree more!

That is one thing that I have found out about IAP. All of the members may start out as strangers, but before long they are friends on the way to becoming family.

I have made more friends in my time in IAP, than in the previous 20-30 years!

Mark is a gracious host with a beautiful home and shop. He is generous with his time and knowledge and if you ever have a chance to visit him I encourage you to do so.

My home/dirty shop is open to anyone to visit and share a story.

That was my signal to take a hike. I think Ernie forgot that one was in there.

...Ernie was being Ernie, he made me do it! And, I do believe a road trip is in the works.

He didn't forget either,

That is the one sad thing about the IAP.........we all live so far apart.

Glad you had such a great time Ernie.

But IAP has brought us together, friendship overcomes distance.

To all comments: Sense a theme - FRIENDSHIP!

Ernie and I both commented that the longer we are active in IAP in whatever capacity we choose, penturning is simply the medium that brought us together. The friends we have made are far more important.

As Ernie and I each turned a pen in my shop, then sat outside and shared A LOT of our personal history, both good and bad, it made for a great evening.

Thanks for the visit Ernie.

I made it home. I drove 735 miles roundtrip. This was probably the funnest 3 day trip i've been on in quite some time. Mark and his wife were wonderful. The food was delicious, even when I got the munchies! I forced Mark to make a pen using a blank I cast. In return, he made me turn a pen using his blank. I'll post pics later in the week of the finished pen. That was extremely enjoyable. Just two friends telling lies while making a few pens!

After the pens we decided to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful night. We enjoyed some moonshine, a few smokes, and had some fantastic conversations. The conversation's were all over the place. At one point we had bullfrog's going wild, fireworks going on, and a huge tree that fell down and almost killed us! It was wild and crazy!!

I had planned on having breakfast this morning with Mark before I left, but the shine put a hurtin on him!! Thanks again Mark and hope your feeling better :)

I started turning pens about 12 years ago. I that time i've met some wonderful people I can call friend on IAP. I'm amazed at the places i've been and people i've met because of this little pen turning forum.

Thanks again Everyone!!
