That would be a good place for botched pens intended for other contests. Add an oops band and some aluminum flashing to fix that blown end, balance it with the same on the opposite end, maybe scroll some squiggles and glue some colored plastic between the two...and you've salvaged your entry!

You are exactly correct Sir Brian! But don't be so hard on botched pens before they are transformed into true art. Take this pen for example, done by a true noob who thought his screwdriver looked like a skew, it supposedly was splattered many times and actually is a compilation of 16 different attempts - all epic failures. However, he put on his big-boy pants and made a final go at it.
With some skill and lots of luck botched pens can come out looking like this and is shown all over the country as part of the IAP Collection...
(Yes minions of IAP - This pen was constructed and turned by Sir Brian!).

Tony, if it's wood without segments it might be eligible for Pretty Wood Pen Contest
