I have been thinking about getting into "making" some damascus kitchen knives. Family has enough pens.

How can I get started? Shall I just do a search on ebay for a damascus blank and hope I get a good one? I am confident I want a made in USA blank. Are there preferred makers? Features to look out for or avoid?

Opinions appreciated.

Regards, Carl

If you thought pen turning was expensive don't even begin to look at knives. Just an FYI though that Jesse James is now hand making damascus kitchen knives so your in a fairly crowded market already to begin with. Alpha Knife Supply has probably some of the most innovative and thus expensive damascus and timascus but well worth the money.

Damascus in the kitchen is not for the faint of heart. It takes a special person to take extra care of them else they will rust very bad.

Denim however holds up exceptionally well.
