Current Carry Pen

Just a random fun topic:

What is your current "Carry Pen" and a few brief comments if desired.

Today this was mine. I have a couple of segmented pens, and like to use different ones because I have no attention span...

This one I was not totally pleased with, but it is growing on me.

Wayne, you would need several (3) 1/4" thick strips, about 2" wide, by 6" long of the several species. (Plus a few extras for my margin-of-error). We could very well do it this fall. We could easily construct the blank and you could turn/finish/etc...

Birthday girl went after work to her parents; I'll go down tomorrow AM. Gotta take care of the elders... we'll be them too soon.

I have three daily carries. Two are kit less and the other TWSBI. I have another kitless that I use in rotation. The blue kitless is acrylic and the brown is a cellulose piston filler with an ink window.

My current everyday pen at work. I'm a click pen fan and haven't found one i like in kits. I'm currently making a kitless click. Hoping to have it done soon!!

This is my current carry pen. I just love the paint layers and the osage orange wood. Have been asked to sell it quite a few times but NO WAY!!!

Here's what Ive been using recently. Slightly modified deco kit. The rib before the nose cone looks ok but I don't like how it feels so i made a smooth transition. Much better to write with.

I have been using different rollesters for quite a while at work. They fit nicely in my uniform shirt pockets. I recently replaced the stock refill with a Pilot G2, not totally thrilled with it, am going to have to experiment a bit to find the right refill for my liking. This is the one that I've been using lately, blue mahoe and bog oak.

If there was a click kit as dependable as that cheap pen from Staples, that's all i would make!! But for now I have to buy schmidt clicker and custom make my own! I like the long clicker, but it's to long!! Doesn't fit shirt pocket very well

I think his point was then show us one of your custom ones and say that is your carry pen and not some China made one. This is a pen turning forum:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

I have two. The computer pen is one I have sold more of just by carrying than any other pen. The chrome is one that gets alot of great compliments and have sold a couple of these. It is a great way to make sales. Get sales from unsuspecting people and places.

My daily carry is a kitless FP made of aluminum and walnut with an acrylic section. JOWO #5 nib with Ruthenium plating. Very light and very smooth writing.

My EDC is one of the first pens I ever turned. It's a designer series in satin with stabilized Hackberry I even stabilized the wood myself. Why do I carry it? The pen turned out in the end to have a lot of issues that I created. So every day when I pick it up it reminds me of what I shouldn't do on the next pens I turn.

My current carry is a Jr. Gent in antler. The antler went through to marrow when I turned. I didn't think it would be a good seller so kept for my self. I like the more natural appearance. Will have to take a photo of it.

Just a Slimline, but I decided I want to have a new slimline every year. The first pen I ever made was a slimline, and I want to be able to display them all over time to see my progress. (Hopefully I don't lose any!) I also like the smaller size for my pockets.

This one I particularly like because I made it from some Maple Burl I received from a family friend whose grandpa harvested it in the 1930s.

Have you tried the Vertex Click? Longer blank than many, so it shows off the wood. Really nice mechanism, quiet. I also like the Aero Click. FWIW. Russ

I swap out pens every so often depending on what I'm making at the time. Unfortunately I usually give them away as I encounter people who like them. I've managed to keep these two for a while.

John I still think your feather blanks are some of the coolest pens I have seen here. The idea and presentation makes a great gift. I still have a couple of your blanks that I have not turned yet. I bet anyone who sees them wants one.

As I have mentioned before, I admire your precision of the Chevrons, superb.

The one I use now is a Sirocco (disclaimer. Marla sells her blanks to Beaufort and Turners Warehouse) and the one before was a Zen. I quit carrying the Zen because the cap didn't always stay on in my pocket.

Is a pencil ok? This is my shop pencil in auto body filler. Takes a kickin' & keeps on clickin'. It has been through the wash twice so far and still works.

I also actually had a slimline survive the wash/dry cycle. New refill, some paste wax and it was good to go!

My little Virage FP carry pen:

Handmade paper: 50/50 Kozo/Abaca fibers - paper making technique detailed in my earlier thread, here:

Paper steamed for 45min. to fix the dye, dried, then CA-glued to the brass barrel

I switch between three. A Professor in Macadamia and antique brass that didn't turn out like I was experimenting toward. It is my "rugged duty" pen.

A ProX in Strata and antique pewter that is my all around user and note taker.

An American Patriot Rollerball in Rosewood and Pewter for when I want a RB instead of BP. It most often stays in the mobile office bag.
