Something I've been working on over the past couple of weeks :)

We should do this more often  giving me great ideas of things to make.. Fire piston sounds good, but no cigar on this occasion

Cannon! ... not enough meat around the middle to handle the pressure unfortunately but love the idea. I wonder what the law is on those.

il add some more to it tonight to see if that gives anyone an idea

The last person to use the phrase 'Can you tell what it is yet' is in prison, probably for the rest of his life!!

Will it be an oil lamp or something similar?

I reckon you are holding it upside down and it hangs down from the round wooden 'base'
Is it a light fitting?

Pen stand?
May be the pic, but I can't figure why the 'axle' seems to be off center to the tube thingy.

C'mon, put us out of our misery........

Candle stick?

The axle is off centre to to make it heavier on one side :) that'll box your head! you are correct in saying axle though.. so it pivots freely.

I agree it does look like a rocket... And I must admit I did hold it up horizontally and briefly fly it around my shop making zoom zoom noises. But no, not a rocket or a flashlight.

Ok, before it drives people around the bend

I have based the design around the midland spark gap Cigar lighter which was made back in 1910-1920.

The shaft tilts forward once the side arm is pressed, brushing the rim against a contact on it's way past, creating a spark, which ignites the fuel soaked cotton wool which is packed within the tube

I spotted one on one of these storage hunter tv shows and thought it was pretty neat. here's my take on it

Cool ! . I like it !! . Does the flame extinguish when the side arm is released and the tube goes back to vertical ?
