My first thought is afzelia zylay . Does it have a distinctive smell ? Afzelia doesn`t . Second thought would be narra , which does have a nice smell . Both thoughts probably wrong .
To have a good positive ID you need bark and leaf to go alone with the wood grain. Anything else would be just a wild guess as it could be several things.
I would guess Bubinga as well, check out Hobbit House online and compare things like end grain shots for the best ID ability assuming you didn't receive bark and leaves with it.
Pretty certain it is figured bubinga. I've turned a number of blanks like that but with a bit more figure in them. They make beautiful pens.
