I have an Apple phone iPhone 6 I believe that I am not using. Can I load the app on the phone if it is not working as a phone?
You should but you would have to do it over wifi. But I'm not sure if it needs an internet connection after installed.
Yes - the device does not have to have a phone SIM card. You just need an Internet connection to install the program & leave it connected to Internet long enough to download its database & reference files from the IAP server.
Once that's done, you don't even need an Internet connection any longer except to email or print and to download new database updates when they become available.
