A few had shown interest building Castle walls like Idid in this thread http://www.penturners.org/forum/f13/castle-moat-all-100781/

I happened to take a few photos of what I was working on and figure I will post em here. This was Blue Mahoe and Green Dyed Curly Maple. I cut my mortar strips on the bandsaw then sanded them flat. I took 4 blanks and glued them into a large square. I took the green and squared it up and glued up some squares. drill a 1/4 hole in everything and get ready to build. I drilled a hole in a clamp so I could hold it all together. I used alot of wood glue. Hope it helps all of those wanting to try something new.

Thanks for sharing that !! You made it look easy, but I'm sure it wasn't.

I have a dumb question though. How did you make it round? It looks to me that you used the wooden dowel as a mandrel first, and then just drilled it out later for the tube. Clever thinking !!
Oh....and Great Spacing on the bricks!!!

Skip it is easier than you think. I got a cheap set of these at Harbor Freight. Cut the dowel flush and then use one on the dowel and the turn between centers to get it round. then its easy to chuck and drill.

:rolleyes: That drilling a hole in your clamp is a great idea to keep everything lined up, and you don't need 4 hands to hold everything together. It's little tips like these that make life a little easer for the rest of us. Thank you for sharing. Jim S

I wish it had been my original idea, but I saw a duck call builder using that technique and thought hmmm. It does help tremendously. I still had a a set a little off but that is my set built using that method. Maybe I can improve on it.
