Hello; I just picked up a set of the JR Beal ball buffs for doing the inside of bowls. Do you put the ball buff in the lathe and hold the bowl up to it, or put the ball buff in a drill and turn the bowl on the lathe?

So how do you do it??? Is there any reason for doing it this way?

Thanks for any thoughts....

You can get the hardware to mount it to a buffer or your lathe. You can also make what you need from wood for the lathe. I believe that is how it is intended to be used so it is spinning at a consistent speed when you buff as opposed to trying to maintain a constant speed with a drill. I think the instructions for buffing say 1700 rpm (or higher?).

If the bowl is still on the lathe I normally buff with the ball buffs in a chucked in a drill. If the bowl has been completely finished before buffing, then I have an extension that holds the buff and I hold the bowl and do the buffing.
