I am am a solid Sean Connery supporter.

Roger Moore was way too smarmy (where is a throwing up emoji?)

Pierce Brosnan was pretty good.

Daniel Craig is my favorite - the combination of better writing and his intensity made for my favorite movie - Casino Royale. Action, drama, Eva Green!!! and a genuine romantic arc - what a movie.

Who's your favorite Bond and movie?

My wife and I just watched Thunderball tonight - we wanted to compare it to Never Say Never Again, which we watched earlier in the week! :)

Each Bond actor was a product of his time - and the way he played it reflected society to some extent...Connery is the post-WW2 bond, and his world is edgier. Moore is the Cold War bond with all the gadgets and intrigue. Dalton ushers in the end of the cold war, etc.

Watching the Connery movies again makes me cringe - way too many times when he's told 'no' and doesn't accept it...it's really uncomfortable to watch sometimes! That being said, I had to throw out one Bond movie I bought as unwatchable - just so ridiculously racist I never wanted to watch it again. I can't recall the name offhand, as it's not in my collection anymore.

All of the Bond actors (except Lazenby) had some good features. That being said, Roger Moore is the perfect mix of class, charm, wit, and playfulness. He was smarmy, when smarmy was warranted - and just so perfectly played the Gen X English secret agent. Dry humour, charm, and tweed...perfect!

The best movies are undoubtedly Connery's - great villains, plots, and acting. I think Connery has the best movies, but Moore is the best on-screen Bond. I think Craig is the closest to the flawed character that Fleming wrote. Brosnen should have stuck to being Remington Steele. Dalton was ok - I liked his movies, but they just don't speak to me. Craig is a good throwback, and resurrected the series after Brosnen's over-the-top movies killed it.

I think On Her Magesty's Secret Service, with Moore in place of Lazenby, would have been the best Bond movie. As they stand, I'm going to pick Octopussy, Goldfinger, and Thunderball as a dead-heat tie.

So I have noticed Netflix has added a bunch of them. Honestly I have only watched a couple of them, they were never something I got into. It is like that with the Bourne movies too. I got one on DVD when my wife and I were first dating and we both like action movies; however any time we put it on we fell asleep.

I can sit down and equally enjoy watching any of the Bond movies so I have no one favorite. As for actors, Sean Connery is the iconic 007 and rightly deserved. The rest follow in this order: Craig, Moore, Brosnan, and Dalton. Lazenby was a one hit wonder simply because of the role. Since he announced during the filming of Her Majesty's Secret Service that he wasn't going to do anymore Bond movies, I feel his heart wasn't in it and did the movie an injustice.

The best Bond movies were the ones written by Ian Fleming...Dr. No was the first and followed the book reasonably well. After they started to "write" the James Bond movies specifically for the movies, they lost me. To me the movies were about the writing and not the actors, though Sean Connery will always be my favorite.
I think the Daniel Craig bond was too dark, too serious and too much just for the money, not the essence of Bond.

If I read a Bond book, I picture Connery. Lazenby turned down future movies as he didn't want to be type-cast. Each one had his own characteristics- Bond was more serious, Moore had a dry sense of humor. Dalton was decent. Never cared for Craig. IMHO, Hollywood and Great Britain took the later Bond books and completely screwed them up...royally. Read Moonraker and watch the movie. The book was much better. Same with You Only Live Twice, in Japan. Trivia- Desmond Llwewlyn was the only character to play Q in all Bond movies up until his death. I liked the old guy! "Now pay attention, 007!"

Favorite James Bond- Sean Connery
Favorite Movie- Live and Let Die.

My wife and I saw Paul McCartney and Wings in concert at the Capital Center in DC back in 1975. Live and Let Die was the only song with pyrotechnics. It was amazing although I was just about deaf for two days after the concert. Man was it loud!

I have been a Bond fan forever. I think my favorites would be.

Connery - Goldfinger

Moore - Live and Let Die

Craig - Casino Royale

Never liked Brosnan at all and really don't even consider his movies.

I also got to meet Lois Maxwell the original Moneypenny. I grew up in Buffalo and my sister was a director in the local theatre scene. Ms. Maxwell was a resident of Fort Erie Canada and came to see my sisters work. It was nice to meet a true legend ( at least in my eyes ).

What the movies have to do with pens is not appropriate or relevant!! P

Admiral, this is a place for people to have dumb fun. Usually this forum has nothing to do with pen turning at all. I mean this with all due respect. I'm pretty sure you could tell some interesting and amusing stories from your chopper days. I know I could but most are not appropriate for this forum.

Dalton was the worst for sure. If you are a bond fan I am sure you can all agree on that one.

Sean Connery will always be bond for me for sure. He was the first Bond I watched.

I do like Daniel Craig though. I like what they did with Spectre and reintroducing the whole story of how he became 007 with his first and second kill in the first Craig movie.

Roger Moore was just too creepy in my opinion. Those are the corniest Bond movies in my opinion.

Good topic Chris. :)

Before the internet, I was on a long term assignment in a foreign country. I ran out of things to do during downtime, not that we had that much of it. The only English language books in the hotel bookstore were paperbacks of the Ian Fleming James Bond novels, so I bought them one-by-one and enjoyed them. I read a lot, but mostly non-fiction. Those novels were a nice change of pace.

Fast forward a few years, and the James Bond movies came out in DVD boxed sets, so I bought them, and then kept them going.

I like Sean Connery, Roger Moore, and Pierce Brosnan. I do not like the others, and especially dislike Daniel Craig. Most people seem to like Daniel Craig, so I must be in the minority. He doesn't look like "James Bond" to me, and I don't like the way he portrays the character. Just my 2 cents worth.

I actually forgot to include Pierce Brosnan in my list. He is up there in my book. He did not make enough movies though. I think he could have been a long time Bond had he done more.

As much as I hate to give Sean Connery the #2 slot, I think Daniel Craig was the best Bond. The way his parts were written, along with his acting, seem to me to be the truest portrayal of the character in the books. Brosnan was good for that era and I was pumped back when I heard he got the gig, but his movies haven't stood the test of time like the Connery classics.

I think Daniel Craig showed the more human side of Bond. Things weren't slick like some other Bond actors, fight scenes were brutal and dirty and difficult, not easily decided and simple. There was self confidence, but the bad guys were competent, too.

I'm on team Connery with Craig a close second. Grew up on the Connery movies and thought it difficult to replace his charisma, but Craig's Bond is more multi-dimensional.
Favorite movie is Skyfall; same for the title track. Great song and Adele has some pipes. Love her voice!
