I had a go at a sketch pencil with a segmented blank I made from Brazillian Cherry, Walnut and Pecan. I turned this between centers and somehow managed to get the overall size about .010 too small. It's can me seen by the nib end just a bit.

Somewhat crappy pictures again!

I was not at all happy with the actual piece of the kit that holds the lead. It had to be glued together and doesn't seem like it will hold up long.

Nice job. Don't forget to post this in the no comment thread so it will stay with us. I always like this type of segmenting. Every once in awhile I will take all my scraps and do one of this type it is a lot of fun and you never really know what you are going to end up with. I have never thought to add aluminum to them it is a very nice touch.
