I want to laminate dyed veneers together ?

Hey I have no idea what I am doing on this project .........
I want to glue some died veneers together then cut them on my re saw ( band saw with a fence ) into strips or pieces about 3/4 in x 1/2.

I want to laminated 3 to 4 sheets or strips of dyed veneers together.
I can make a DIY press.

I worry about glue lines and the fact that normally this design if not very strong and could be prone to break easier so my thoughts are I want a strong glue to hold this together .

Try Titebond Translucent. This was recommended to me from Wood128 for segmenting purposes, and I have done exactly what you are doing, and I had no glue lines.

You are gluing wood veneer regular titebond II works just as well. Have done it before. The glue is absorbed into the wood fibers so it does not leave a layer of glue between them like gluing sold surfaces.

I haven't pre stacked laminated veneers in my work before .
Its all been done one piece at a time and I have used super glue.

I want to do the pedal inlay or like the pen JT made except I want to do it on my lathe using the 24 position indexer .
Whit a veneer trimmer set up at 45 or 60 % angle on my cross slide .
I am thinking of doing 8 or 12 cuts where you guys cutting all 4 angle on the
on a square piece of wood I want to cut angles on 8 to 24 sides on round wood .
Kind of like a Celtic knot.
JT knows exactly what I am thinking, you just post a picture of one of your segmented pens that was done on 4 sides .

I want to try this on one of my pocket chalkers , and I have allot thoughts which order I should make the cuts.
And how far back I need to move the cutter back.

I don't know if I can explain what I am going to do, because I have never done this before .

I call the inlay butterflies, normally they have 4 loops, I want to do as many loops as possible .
And then seeing what other inlays I can add in .

I will get some fresh Tite bond II
mine is 6 years old and don't know if it goes bad .

Do you guys under what I am trying to do ?

If you are talking about a scalloped pen, I could have done that on a 6 sided or even an 8 sided pen if I wanted to. All depends how many facets I cut the blank in. But you lose the arc in the scallop.

I don't want to loose the arc, are you sure the arc issue cant be over come by more distance between cuts and go to a longer angled cut ?

That is one of my concerns is I need a cutter that going to be able to cover a inch plus face cut or fly cutter .

I will set up my lathe tomorrow take a photo or two and post them.

The other issue is if I did 12 sides in what order would I cut them ?

I have never tried stretching the cuts out that much. The problem is you are working with such a small radius and it may get more pointed than round.

Here is an example of it being done on a pool cue. You maybe familar with this site being you are into pool cues.

It looked like the number of cuts was 10.

I am going to have to experiment.
I can do 1, 2, 4 , 6, 8, 12 16, or 24.
