Smile Bottle openers and seam rippers

Hi all,

I have been turning for a year or so mostly pens and bottle stoppers. I have been asked by some friends and family if I can make some bottle openers and seam rippers for them. The question I have is where do you guys by the hardware to make them?

Thank you very much,

Jerry

Jerry -

The dealers who sell pen kits also sell stopper kits, both the metal variety and also the silicone design. Ruth Niles has the best metal design - understated stainless steel. But some of the plated stoppers are also OK. I especially like the black titanium. The key thing with plated metal is to avoid the inexpensive platings because they will eventually corrode as a result of contact with wine. The silicone variety is much less expensive and can be quite attractive.

As for seam rippers, you can buy kits, but frankly, I have been buying rippers at discount stores (we call them "dollar stores" on this side of the pond). There is a tutorial in the library that talks about converting commercial plastic rippers.
