I have owned a Grizzly 7x12 and now have a LMS 8.5 x 16, the grizzly was a good little lathe and did everything I asked of it, the 8.5x16 is an excellent tool. I have been ask on several ocassions why a bolt on chuck in lieu of a threaded shaft and matching threads on the chuck? Any help??

Most metal lathes have a reverse and therefore screw on chucks would fly off.

lol i did find myself laughing at this point last week after screwing a closed end pen onto a threaded bar and proceeding to knurl it. all went fine until i put it in reverse to go a touch deeper
