I remember seeing a website over a year ago that showed how to change wheels to give threads that weren't catalogued for a particular lathe, I can't remember the site and have tried searching, but not come across it yet, does anyone know of this site?

Little Machine Shop has a great tool on their website for selecting change gears for different threads.

Here is a spreadsheet that I made to use the selection of gears on my lathe, other than those standard ones printed on the lathe cover
Once you understand how the gears work, you will wonder why so many people buy lathes with fixed gearboxes.
You can also buy extra gears to make the possible combinations almost infinite.
You could also extend the length of the arm that holds the gear train so that you could turn a single spiral ( helix  ) over the length of a pen.
There is also a great Workshop Practice Series book called 'Screw Cutting on the Lathe' that is invaluable and easy to understand that has a great section on selecting gears
