Don't be fooled by the "DRO" on the cross slide and compound handles, you still need to account for backlash. They work fine going one way but when you change direction you have to re-calibrate for backlash.

That's not meant to be a knock on the machine, just some advice. It's a great machine and LMS is a great company.

I used a Micro-Mark 7x14 when I started out and it served me well so you should have a blast with it!

You need one of these too.

3104 Tap Guide. It fits in the tail stock so you can tap straight.

Just make sure it fits your tail stock taper. The tip is spring loaded so it follows the tap as it threads into your work. Simple but effective.

I gave them a call to make sure I got the right one. Nice CS for sure.

The tap guide is a must, but tap wrenches are just about as necessary. You CAN turn a tap with an open end or crescent wrench, but a tap wrench makes life a lot easier. They come in various sizes so you may want to wait until you purchase taps before you get the wrenches.

I'm partial to General brand collet type wrenches, but there are other choices.
