So after weeks of calling for parts and looking at ebay and cregs list their was no viable solution to my gouged journals. I did find nos thrust bearings and installed them but the gouging was still too deep to run the lathe without the spindle hitting the head stock. My solution came to me yesterday. "SURFACE GRINDER" I will take the race from the old thrust bearing and grind it down to the 0.030" I need to pack out the journal. And I know it will fit the OD and ID of the head stock because that is where it came from. Man I hope this works. other wise its an 1.2hr drive to a friends heavy 10 to get my work done.

So basically, you're gonna shim the new bearing with part of the old bearing for a good tight fit? Sounds like a decent plan! :)
