I have a Grizzly G0516 midi lathe/mill combo that I purchased new in 2009. Over the couple years of use I have noticed that the paint on the carriage has more or less melted into a sticky coating. When using the lathe I use cutting oil as a coolant and apparently it dissolves or at the very least softens the paint.
I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this on their metal lathe or mill? If not what kind of coolant/cutting fluid are you using? I am planning to disassemble and clean up the lathe in the near future and I was going to repaint the painted parts or strip them to bare metal and polish them a little. No mater which I do I am considering changing my coolant as well.
