I have a Standard Modern 10" Utilathe. It currently has a 1hp/115v/1725rpm motor (not original), with a normal single pole light swith for an on/off.

Originaly, these lathes came with a Master power switch, a fwd/rev swith and an on/off. I would like to set it up again similarly.

First question. Can my motor be reversed? From what I can see on the motor lable, all I have to do is reverse the wires. True?

Second question.*What type of switches can I use to acomplish this? While i dont want to scrimp on safety, I also have to keep my budget frugal.

For the master switch, not starting the motor, I figure a regular light switch should be sufficient. The reason for a master switch, is to power a couple of lights that I want to mount, as well as a future coolant pump.

Should I use a magnetic switch for the motor on/off?

As for the reverse, I have no idea what sort of special switch is needed.

I have attached a photo of the motor info.

Thanks for any help.

Thanks guys. That clears it up enough to get me going.

I am going to pick up a drum switch for reversing, and a Mag switch for power. I like the idea of the switch disconecting in a power outage.
