OK all you metal lathe pro's. When I first got my metal lathe the feed travel was factory set, so no matter what speed you were turning the feed travel would follow. I have since then played with the gears for threading all kinds of different sizes. Now I want to put it back to the factory setting to get the feed travel to match whatever I am turning and I can't seem to get there, so all I am doing is turning threads. The manual for what it is does not show this. HELP.

Which lathe? You should probably have about .005 travel for finish cuts. But depending on which lathe the gear ratios, hence the gear set up may be different to achieve that.

There is normally a diagram either on the gear cover (or perhaps inside the gear cover) that should tell you all the variations.

On this pic of mine, the top block shows the feed speed combinations.

It's a Craftex B2227. I thinl I have it now thanks to Skip and Frank that what I wanted.
