I've noticed a little play in the carriage on my lathe. Not looking forward to making adjustments. BUT....it has to be done. I've adjusted the cross slide one time since I got this jewel but, I think it's been 3 years. There is a website that, shows steps in doing this but, it escapes me right now. Mini-lathe forum? Anybody?

I believe the technique your looking for is known at THor's Hammer.:eek:
THis is where you take a 16lb maul and gently but firmly beat the living daylights out of the carriage until it tightens up on the ways. I recommend starting on the back where those pesky screws are and beating them flat. If that doesnt work try beating solidly on the ways until they swell slightly filling the gap! That ought to get the results your looking for!

Dunno why it needs resetting........you sure as hell haven't worn it down from use...:biggrin:

Here's a little tip.....when you need to readjust things, use the opportunity to take out the gibs and clean and relube. You could be just tightening it down to grubby old muck.

Here's another free tip...use that pink comforter to clean it and then you have the perfect reason to eventually part with it...
You could even have a little ceremony when you deep six it...

You are welcome, as always...

I wanna get it ready for when I DO use it :tongue:Yes, clean and relube is needed too. What pink towel? In due time you will see something resembling a pen unless you ignore my post again of course. If you do your three "Like Button" cronies won't have a chance to have their noses up your arse!:tongue:

Hey Chuck? Please don't wait till I get there. I maybe not be in a rush but surely want to spend time NOT cleaning. LOL

So looking forward. Have to do some packing, cooking, and doctoring before leaving...........But watch for the parade in your neighborhood shortly.
I expect the local Constables might even give me an escort.

Damn, I miss my ex-wife, but my aim is getting better!
