Laboratory Grade Vacuum Pump

I recently received a Welsh 1400 Duo-Seal Vacuum Pump (laboratory grade) in exchange for some commissioned pens. However, after a bit of research into vacuum casting (which I have never attempted), I have decided to explore pressure casting instead. As such, I am looking to trade this to someone that could use the unit to its capabilities in exchange for something of reasonable equivalent value.

Overall with it's solid condition and specs as a laboratory grade pump, I am looking for somewhere in the $600 range in trade of items of interest (acrylic blanks, segmented blanks, kits, turning tooling, woodworking / turning equipment, etc.).

As for more information on the vacuum pump...
Based on the Welsh website, the unit is a single stage belt driven pump capable of pulling full and consistent vacuum at 25 LPM and adjustable to 0.0001 torr with a 1/3HP 580RPM motor. I can not claim I fully understand what that means exactly, but the unit goes for over $1750 new and seems ideal for long running, high contaminate dilution vacuum casting applications.
The unit itself weighs 70lbs which we can work shipping into the trade. I have not fully tested the unit due to not having a belt or vacuum gauge. I have only checked motor functionality (works great) and visually checked for seal leaks (does not appear to be any).

Thanks for your time and consideration. PM me with questions or offers.

Matt

Lot of looks but it appears no interest. Either my trade values are simply too high, or this unit is not what people are looking for on casting applications. ANY feedback or offer at this point would be considered as I would really like someone to find a good use for it.

I thought I did reply. I guess I looked it up to see more specs and probably had to get back to work. :)

This is probably designed to run 24 hours a day/365 days a year. I'm trying to wrap my head around the specs but 25 LPM is .8 CFM which is a fifth of my $56 dollar vacuum pump (though I have seen tests where due to hose sizes most pumps only really do 1 CFM).

0.0001 torr maybe lower than most cheap vacuum pumps but it maybe barely any improvement for stabilizing.

I think this maybe like selling a semi truck to people that just need a little Ford ranger.

I can share this on the Pen Casting Facebook page to see if they have any better comments.

Thanks for the feedback. I do enjoy the analogy...maybe just maybe there's that one out there looking to mess around with a semi-truck

Do you want me to share this on Facebook? They should have good feed back.

I have an older Welsh than this unit. Mine today sells for $2000 new. Pulls -29 all day long and I let it run for days at a time for those hard to dye woods. If I didn't have mine, I would be all over this at $600
Don't know Chartres from a hole in the ground, but I basically stole mine and will never trade it or sell it.

Thanks for the feedback from someone who has actually used one. Maybe it will help those who are considering it's use or a potential trade offer.

I used Welch pumps all the time when I worked in the lab. They are workhorses. We often ran them 24 hours a day for 5 days straight with no problem. They pull an extremely high vacuum.
