I like the 3/4 x 5 1/2. I usually do not make anything larger than Jr series pens, so anything bigger only gets wasted! Hope this helps.

Anything 5 1/2 or longer. I like making closed ended with cap finials. 5 1/2 is just about the minimum. I'll use shorter blanks, but not for a closed ended.

Well my choise depends on the style.

1 x 1 x 6 will work for any size pen I know about (except maybe one) but for many styles there is a lot of waste.

3/4 x 3/4 x 5 will make 2 Sierra's which are a popular style. Add 1/2 inch to the length and you capture another group of mid- sized pens.

1/2 x 1/2 x 5 will do for slimlines and some othe 7mm's but 9/16 x 9/16 x 5 will work might be a little better. Again add 1/2 inch of length and you might pick up a few more styles.
