For Sale 22 American Chestnut pen blanks. 3/4"×3/4"×5" These blanks are Reclaimed from 100+ year old barn beams, and may have worm holes, nail holes, etc. Lots of rustic beauty!

Are you sure those are Chestnut? They look exactly like Oak to me.

Looks like chestnut to me. Chestnut looks much more like ash than oak and is lighter in weight than either.

Recently researched this. One of the keys is the visibility of the pores in the soft bands. Oak can easily be seen with the naked eye. Chestnut is hard to see without a little magnification.

Sorry for the delay. I am 99% certain that it is American Chestnut, but I also agree that they resemble Oak in the picture. These are Reclaimed from barn beams from 100+ years ago.

I was in the opposite direction. Had hand hewn barn beam I thought was oak. Sliced up some of it, turned some it, seemed... different. Began to research and discuss with my brother and it ended up being Chestnut. Very happy about that.

Well if you need more, I have up to 2"×2" and can cut to whatever length you need..

Lol. I still have 8' of 6x6 untouched and a 36"x3"x5" piece left. Turns nicely and reveals nice character.
