I've gotten two tools from John and they are great. Very good craftsmanship and I wish I knew about these before I bought my others from the Cap'n as the fit and finish are outstanding compared to the other guys

I wish I knew about these before I bought mine from Woodcraft. These are a much better deal and the quality looks fantastic.

I would like the Finisher 16 MM Round, on square stock, with 5 replacement cutters. Please let me know where to send a USPS MO. The amount aslo would be helpful. Thank You, Marty

Which size is preferred for pen turning? The regular or mini?

I turn with the normal size, I just haven't got used to turning with the mini tools.

It's definitely a personal decision. I learned with full size tools, so I really don't like the small ones. Actually, I had a 3-piece mini tool set that came with a mini lathe I bought and I traded them to a friend who I was teaching ho to turn pens. He loves the mini tools and doesn't like anything bigger.

I'd suggest trying someones mini & full size tools (if possible) to see which you'd prefer prefer buying tools.

For square versus round stock, is that a personal preference or is there a reason for one over the other?

For making the handle, should the ferrule be pressed on and then screwed into the tang or would epoxy work? Or just pressed on with a tight fit?

Trying to figure some things out before purchasing... Thanks!

A square arm will not spin or turn on a tool rest. They are great for roughing or hogging off stock. A round arm will spin easily for detail work.
I would just buy a handle from John. He makes excellent handles.
They are well balanced, and indestructible. If you are content with making your own, use some decent wood like Rock Maple, and epoxy the ferrule to the handle. A simple press fit should be sufficient for turning pens.
I would not glue the arm into the handle. If you drop the tool or break the handle somehow, it's a bear to get epoxy off.

I'm assuming you can use the round arm for roughing as well, it's just a little harder to hold straight?

Thanks for the notes on the handle. I prefer wood handles :)

Sorry it took so long to answer questions.
