More specifically the longer side of pen drop offs. I have a good deal of them from my pens, but not near enough. I built a bar this past weekend in my game room, and wanted to use pen blank slivers as the cosmetic top to the bar. A mixture of woods is what I'm after (I'll take acrylic for another future project I'm planning). I can pay shipping or we can work something out.

In the end, I need to cover 672 sq. inches worth (56 sq/ft). It's a decent size bar.

Methinks your math is off by a hair. 56 Sq. Ft. would be a HUGE bar. 672 Sq Inches works out to 4.666 Sq. Ft.

Remember, a Sq. Ft. is 12" x12", which equals 144 Sq. In. So you'd need to divide 672 by 144 to get a true Sq. Ftage. Again, in this case, 4.666 Sq. Ft.

It is a nice looking bar, even at this point. I can't wait to see pics of it covered by slices of 100 different woods! Have you thought about covering the front with long slices, not square?

72" long, 16" deep on the long run
34" long x 16" deep on the corner

about the same on the lower level

yeah, i did the math in my head, it's probably off a little haha. should be about 24 square feet. not sure what i was thinking
but that's the idea, have as many different slivers of wood as possible.

Nic--you're a tick under 12 square feet...
72*16=1,152
34*16=544
1,152+544=1,696
1,696 / 144=11.777777 etc. square feet

Once math gets sideways it's really hard to get back on track!!

You're right, but only half right. There a two tiers to the bar.

In that picture is ALL the cut offs I have. Hence this thread haha. I do my best to use every piece of wood I have in other projects, so now, for a large project, I suffer.

Oh boy, you are going to need a lot of wood, it may be worthwhile to look for any solid wood furniture workshop in your area, they would produce a lot of waste that would be ideal for your project, you may have some issues with the number of wood species you get that way but a little bit here, a little bit there is all it takes to get what you need.

If you were closer, I could help you a little, shipping would kill the attempt/thought, sorry...!

Hope you manage to get what you need, I sure look forwards to see what you come up with, in the end...!

Cheers

Missed the second tier!! What a project...will definitely be cool looking. I'm in the same camp, I use it all if I can. Good luck!!
