as of right now I have two lathes, soon three.:)

anyway......I have three pen mandrels, and only one brass nut that will fit on them.

I ordered two replacments from woodnwhimsies. When I got them they were too small to go on my pen mandrels, and I dont have the right size tap.

anyone know of were I can get the right size nut?

I believe I ordered the mandrels from Csusa, and maybe timberbits.

I think the one I got from csusa was their apprentice mandrel.

anyone know of a source for the correct size brass nut?

Thanks

I have mandrels with 1/4 NC and 1/4 NF threads

The NC is 1/4 inch by 20 threads per inch

the NF is 1/4 in ch by 28 threads per inch.

ACE Hardware sells nuts in both sizes -- take your mandrel and get one that fits. It will be a bit smaller in outside diameter, but will work the same.

Ken has it right on, quick, simple & accurate. When you find the correct nut (it might even be metric), then get the tap and cut new threads in the brass nuts you have.

They are normally 1/4" UNF.
I have 4 spare brass knurled nuts if you want them free plus postage
