I've been experimenting with adding aluminum segments to some pens and bracelets. Turning doesn't seem to be to big of a hill for a stepper. I really like the results. But is there some secret to keeping the aluminum from gumming up drill bits and saw blades?

Lubricant. :) Cutting oils or coolant for machining. Kerosene or WD-40 will work, as will tapping oils for aluminium like A-1. There are wax/greases that come in a tube and sticks to lube cutoff saw, bandsaw blades, and drill bits. There are some Boelube products covering most of the above if you want to hunt them out.
