I think some of what you all have been telling me is sticking - plus last night when I got angry with the wood I drilled it like I was trying to kill it. Fast and quick -- and no wallowing!!!
Did it again this morning on this piece that will become a cap and it's perfect! Now the only thing to be bothered with is drying time.

Some coffee filler again

So it didn't work out. Had the insert drilled out and it looked good until I started threading it. I thought I had enough meat left on there, but some of it just started chipping out. So I drilled it all out and got rid of the bad threads and made and installed another insert. Going to make this one 14mm instead of 16mm so there's lots of meat left behind. Will have to make a new section though, but it's totally worth it. Oh, and I'll have to redo the threads on the barrel, and a new barrel insert... Ugh....
