Anyone know what this is? This one little piece showed up out of nowhere in the bucket by my bandsaw where I toss all the scraps when I'm preparing a blank on the bandsaw. I have never seen it before, and can't find anymore like it anywhere in the shop.

Thanks.

That's what I thought too but as far as I know I've never laid my hands on the stuff before now. Why couldn't a Bigger USEABLE piece have appeared mysteriously out of the woodwork (no pun intended)?

The bark doesn't quite match for osage orange, plus it's REALLY heavy. I think you'd be able to tell the difference. It almost looks like oak to me, but don't take my word for it!

Good luck!

Mulberry would have noticeable sapwood between the bark and the yellow, and mulberry needs to be fairly large in diameter before it has rough bark.

My first thought was osage orange as well.
