I am often on here asking what kind of wood this and that is and i am wondering if there is a book with a wood species classification chart...

don't know of any books, but there are some articles / web links in the library. When I have a blank that I can't identify, it is FIS wood. (Found In Shop)

There are books out there... try Amazon.
Somewhere I have a very old "book" that was my grandfather's, with each page an actual wood sample.

*wonder where that is*

It really depends on how in-depth you want to get. If you get into looking into cell alignment to help determine species, there are books on that or there are landscape books that can be helpful as well (and everything in between). My best recommendation is to join the International Wood Collectors Society (www.woodcollectors.org) and you'll find a lot of different possibilities from there. Bob I.
