I have turned black palm but not red - will be starting on a couple of pens from it this week and will remember. the splinters!!

If you can not stabilize the wood make sure to keep it hardened with this CA. Otherwise all of the long strands will pop out of the softer material they are embedded in. (DAMHIK)

I doesn't look like palm blanks that I have used. The black spikes are not as pronounced as in the palm blanks that I worked with. I don't know what it is but would like to know. Good luck anyway keithbyrd.

I have decided it is not red palm. I found a piece of red palm and this is not red palm. When I get back to the shop in the next day or two I will take a picture of them side by side.
