Question; if I micromesh the CA finish on a pen is there a need to micromesh the wood if I had sanded to 320- 600? I was not sure if I was wasting my time MM the wood. I made a dozen pens this weekend and while I was standing there thinking about my sore back this thought came to me by way of my back.

some do it but I use either 600 or really worn out 400, if the scratches arn't visible, i start CA, I also like to think that it adheres better to sanded wood than wood thats essentially buffed by 12000 grit MM
I also sometimes get gross dark sanding dust in the pores if i MM wood without a CA finish

Yup! Save the MM for sanding CA and PR. When sanding bare wood I go to at least 600 grit, often to 1500 .... THEN wipe down with accelerator before applying CA. It will clean off the fine stuff you can't see and leave a nice base for the ca to adhere to.

I don't think there is such. "Really worn out 400" is still 400. The grit size is not smaller there is just less of it. It only takes one piece of 400 grit abraisive to leave 400 grit size scratches. 600 grit and "really worn out 400" are not equal...you are still using 400 grit, which may be just fine.:)
Do a good turn daily!

A few months ago I started using an assortment Abralon disc.(180,360,500,1000,2000,4000 grits) The results are awsome and it only takes a minutes or two to run through the process.
