I am looking for the best place to buy pen blanks from. I am interested in mainly exotic stuff. It doesn't have to be anything highly figured or burl. I am running really low on blanks right now and would like to buy about 100 - 150 and am looking for the best place. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
John

eBay - I have bought several auctions from Chitswood, and they are GREAT. Good communication, fast shipping, and great wood. They are fun to work with, too. (no affiliation, just really like them)

www.ArizonaSilhouette.com has a huge selection as does www.blankity-blanks.com . Several other suppliers can be found on our "Links" pages. You get to them from the upper right hand corner of our home page.

The choices could be endless - don't forget about our own folks selling on the classifieds forum. Might not find 100 at a time, but well worth the time to keep checking on.

I agree with Lou. Arizona Silhouette (Bill Baumbeck) and Blankity-Blanks (David Borek) would have to be at the top of my list. I also just received some excellent blanks from Ed Panuski. I am adding him to my list of regulars. Contact me directly for his email address. I don't want to post it where he would be spammed to death like I have been. [;)]

All of the above are excellent sites. I would like to add a plug for Ernie McFarlane at Beartoothwoods.com. Ernie is excellent to work with and like so many of us, a true lover of beautiful wood.

As above, no connection, just a satisfied customer.

John,
I only have domestic stock, but ALOT of unusual figure. Probably the most unusual is osage burl and the curly spalted oak I have been selling. Lots of maple curl and burl, curly catalpa, wild curly ash. I can scan a selection if you change your mind about domestic blanks.

Chitswood has some great stuff on ebay. McFamilywood (Clint) also has some spectacular pieces. And yet another plug for Bill at Az Silhouette. He does have some phenomenal woods as well.

Buy? [:0] Somebody got to the handle 'wood scavenger' before I did. I call most of my wood acquisition 'scrounging'. Friends who know I do things with wood will call and give me excess, I pick up at a place tree trimmers dump their waste. Trades are good. This week I decided to resaw some logs from a dead tree I felled in the woods behind my house last summer. Voila I found good, solid spalted stuff. Not sure what it is, hickory or oak, but sure is interesting. Yes, I do buy some but try to get larger hunks and resaw into pen blanks. Sometimes a $10.00 hunk of wood can be cut into quite a few blanks worth $1.00 to $5.00 each. My bandsaw and chain saw have paid for themselves several times over. [^]
