I'm attempting some drawings on pens but don't like any of the wood I have tested. What is clear, light and tight grained... like a piece of that fake ivory except wood. If there is such a thing, where can I beg, buy or steal some?

Jamie - I also have some sitka spruce if you want to try. Its whats used for musical intrument tops. May be slightly more cream color than holly.

I got some white holly from BB not too long ago, you can't go wrong with anything from BB.
PoeticSoul2 also has White holly every once in a while on ebay, the last I got from there was liquid paper white. It was phenomenal. I think I still have some of those blanks left somewhere.

Holly is pure white but go to the blue borg and look through the"project wood"
There you will find aspen and poplar.
Much of the poplar has a green tinge to it but white is still available.
A 1x 4 piece 4 f.t long should cost less than $5.00.

Lots of great suggestions. I will look in to each and every one, thank you all.
I'm off to NY, NY for the Macy's Day Parade. My son is marching with the Catalina Foothills High School Band from Tucson, AZ. He is the good looking kid, you can't miss him.
