Hello all. I am a total noob here.
I have seen several references to "stabilized woods". What exactly does that mean?
Thank you in advance for your time.

It is a process of replacing the air pockets in the wood with plastic. The Plastic is in a liquid form that then solidifies. It can be done in a variety of ways, some cheap some more complex. every one will have their favorite process to do so.

done correctly, it will take a punky piece of wood and make it as solid as a cast PR blank.

I would also add that a well stablized piece of wood will be about the most consistent, easy turning blank you will ever do. I have a friend that says they are boring to turn, but I say getting a nice, slow pitch to hit once in a while isn't a bad thing!

They also sand and finish very nicely too.
