I received some Woodshed acrylic blanks from
Beartooth woods.com and used one to make a pen.

The material behaved less like acrylic and more like polyresin or rhinestone blanks when machining. The smell while cutting is also similar to polyresin.

I would request anyone with previous experience of turning these blanks to shed some light on the nature of the material and give us any working tips.

Here is the info from Bear Tooth Woods:

"The blanks are made from Silmar41 resin/acrylic.

The blanks are made in small batches here in the USA by an Air Force Veteran living in South Carolina. There is no automation in how the blanks are made and he inspects every single blank. The swirl patterns will definitely vary and no one blank will be the same as another for those blanks with more than one color.

Each blank has a lot of shine and shimmer to them and we are sure you will be very happy with the results you get for the product you are making with these wonderful blanks.

We had some turners turn these blanks before we decided to introduce them and everyone was very happy with how they drilled, turned and finished. Nothing but praise for the quality of the blanks."

Silmar 41 is polyester resin
