After a few problems I have these two blanks for a euro pen, I really have two blanks of the walnut but I only have the lower blank turned. I would like to know what you think of pairing the paduck with the walnut.
Good morning Dan; I think that you turned them well; but, the two colors do not complement each other well. For me, both lower and upper should be Padauk or Walnut; and, I like both and have turned both.
To me, the walnut is too plain to be an interesting combo with the Padauk.
I would combine the Padauk with something highly figured: either flame Black Walnut or even tiger stripe hard maple.
Black walnut is one of my favorite woods, but a plain piece of it on a pen isn't real interesting IMO.
I suspect you have your own doubts -- or you wouldn't have asked.
I think flame box elder or norfolk pine might be a good pairing with padauk. So far I've only used the same wood on both blanks of 2-barrel kits. Guess I need to get a little more adventurous.
