What can not be turned?

I am still amazed at the materials you all turn into pens? Wood, plastics, corn cobs, metal, snake skin and so on... What types of materials, woods, etc. have you tried that simply did not work?

I saw a pickle pen about a year ago. It was a little proud of the bushings and the finish did not look to be very durable.

The reason I asked was it seems anything that has little to no moisture could potentially be set in resin, cut into blanks and turned.

What can not be turned? Anything that my drill bits will not penetrate (like rocks, I have tried) or is too soft to be of any good use.

I think that the only limit is imagination. I saw some straw bale pen blanks at TPS.

That was the answer I was looking for, imagination!!! I am all for keeping tradition so to speak, but I am also in the favor creating the new! Cant wait to get my lathe!

I would think any material that is to hard to drill, or to brittle where the tools cause it to break.
