Can anybody tell me which wood this is?

It was a bought pen blank, but I have no idea where I got it from :redface:
One of a mixed bag.:befuddled:

My best guess from the appearance would be a fir , but I wouldn`t expect to find it in a mixture of blanks . People tend to stay away from the softwoods , I guess out of ignorance as to how they can look .

I am not good at the ID of unknown woods, but if you provide more info, it is more likely you will get good responses. Tell us things like: hard or soft? Fragrance? Turns easy or difficult, and things like tear-out? Is the prop in the pic of the same wood? Open or closed pores?

I like your pen...nice shape on the Cigar components.

thanks very much for the kind compliments,
The wood is hard with no real smell.
It was very easy to saw, drill and turn with no digging, ripping or tear-oüt.
Working it reminded me of Wych-elm.
Also easy to sand, I went up to 800 grains and then used a polyurethane filler and a silk finish varnish.
The prop in the picture is a fossilised shell.
