Although I've never attempted what you are asking about, I have used Weldbond glue in the past for other craft projects. It does have the ability to bond wood, some plastics, and metals such as brass, but the curing time is quite long (24-48 hours). It also stays flexible once cured. I would think that those two characteristics alone would rule it out for the use you are questioning.

However, if you have some on hand, why not give it a shot. Not all of us need to turn a blank five minutes after gluing in the tube, and I'd love to find a glue that dried clear enough that reveres painting wouldn't be required to hide it. Maybe Weldbond has been around so long that no one bothered to give it a try, or it was used in the past but lost favor when the quick setting adhesives came to market. I've just never seen anyone recommend it during the time I've been a member here.
