Welcome Randy,
Most of us here started out just like you, gleaning from others. Heck when I first started I thought I was the first to come up with making wooden center bands, until I found a site like this and found out it had been done a gazillion times before.

That is what makes this a great forum. Everyone is willing to help. You don't have to re-invent the wheel unless you want to for the experience.
