Take off the top (part you made) and turn the transmission with the refill in place--is it easy or difficult?

If Difficult, remove the refill--now easy or difficult?

I've not made them, so I am not certain what you will encounter, but I do know this will isolate the problem.

So, there is friction between the top (part we turn) and the lower part of the pen. Use a round file to "clean" or "reduce" the brass tube at the end. The ones I have grabbed to "test", the tube easily spins around the "Nib adapter sleeve"--should be no friction present.

Hope this helps,
Ed

All mine (over 40) have worked smoothly. If you want the best help, call Berea Hardwoods and ask for Joe. He designed it. If he can't help you then it's really broke.
