There has been several trends about aluminum pen blanks. I am assuming the maker drilled the blank for the brass tube. Would it not be lighter in weight if you drilled for the OD of the nib and clip verses drilling for the tube. Would it not be better if you drilled for the OD of the nib and OD for the clip in wood because the wall of the wood or acrylic is thicker.

Or is the expansion rate of wood throw this theory out the window. I'm thinking through th reason or the brass tubes and where I can eliminate them. resulting in a lighter pen.

Bill, on some kits you can eliminate the tubes usually. Cigars being one. But on most kits the walls of the wood would be too thin. When you press fit the parts the outward pressure would split them.

I have a Aluminum slimline and it does not use the brass tubes. Johnnycnc made the blanks and drilled the holes to the ID of the brass tubes that would normally be used.
