Turning Bottle Stoppers

I am having a hard time turning the ends of my stoppers (a lot of catches) what is the best tool to use?

I use a round nose scraper on mine.

Raise your tool rest a little higher. This will help eliminate the catches.

I use a fingernail spindle gouge because that's the tool that's already in my hand. I make sure that it is terrifyingly sharp and use a light touch. I also say a little prayer.

Sounds like you are not keeping the bevel in contact-- spindle gouge or bowl gouge should work well but the contact must at or above centerline.

slow down and watch what you are doing -- look for your technique steps and I bet you will find you are getting less careful about bevel contact.

I use a Sorby Spindlemaster, in fact I have 3 different sizes and love them.
