Hi Gang! I've turned a number of pens (mostly slimline and designer...) over the past couple of years plus PSI tops and other things such as bird houses, potpouri bowls, boxs, etc., but have never turned a pen/pencil desk set. I would appreciate any/all comments/suggestions on what tools I might need to do so... I currently have a PSI mandrel, mandrel saver, a number of bushings, etc. but never have turned a single ended pen like a desk set. Should I purchase a special mandrel such as the one PSI offers or??? As far as the pen desk set base, anyone know where I might purchase a pre-routed base? Thanks in advance and safe turning to all! Happy Thanksgiving to all!

will give you an idea how to make the pen "closed end".

You can purchase the funnels and the baseplate is just a piece of wood. IF you have a router table, it is MUCH easier, but it could be rounded over with a belt sander, too.

There are also metal posts available that will hold business cards. They can be incorporated into the design, if you like.
