I suggest you keep up with the turning and work to get the spot on fit and finish. Don't get too crazy with the "whoopie do's" as my dad calls them.
I find most people like a very slight bulge to a pen, not pregnant and not straight barrel to barrel. I think your best shaped one is the Hart Double Twist. It is a bit off in the fit as you can see the edge of the wood, it isn't flush to the components. Best way to get it flush is to make use of some calipers. Practice and keep learning from others.
