It's been a few weeks, but I was finally able to turn a pen today, and thanks to everyone that have responded to my posts I'm very pleased with it. I got a dead center and turned it without a mandrel, man what a differance, so from now on I'll do most of my blank drilling on the lathe and turn without a mandrel. So thanks again for all the advice from this group.

I do the finish without a mandrel too! Makes a BIG difference to me. I also drill on the lathe about half the time. If I have a super piece of wood or very delicate one, it goes on the lathe.

Thanks for the post. Maybe it will help others too!
